Backup and Compact Data

You can use Backup to back up all EPoS gnerated data on the system. You can back up data to floppy disks, a tape drive or to the back office system on your network. If the the current data becomes damaged or lost, then it may be restored from the latest backup. This feature also compacts the data and ensures your EPoS system runs at optimal speed.

You can start backup by selecting the Make Backup button on the System Administration screen. The following screen will be displayed:

The grey dialogue box is used to gather certain information for the backup process. Firstly select the required drive i.e. 3 ½’ floppy (A) from the list of devices and folders in the Save in field and click Save.

Note - The system automatically enters ‘Data’ into the File name field, this being the name of the file created by backup.

The backup time will depend on many factors such as the amount of data being backed up and the device type being used. It is recommended that a backup be carried out daily and stored in a safe place.

The following screen will displayed to signify a successful backup:

Click OK at the information prompt, you will notice that the file size is displayed, this will allow the monitoring of the backup status.

If backing up to a floppy drive and the backup file grows above 1.3Mb then an alternative storage device will need to be considered.

Note – The saved data file will be labelled as data.bak
