How it works :-
In the store the shop keeper aims a CCTV camera at the till area. This camera can observe the actions of the staff and cusomers. First EPoS have written special software routines into the EPOS software so that every item that is scanned through the till is then listed on the CCTV footage of the camera aimed at the till area. This data includes the name of the item and also the value of the goods.
If your member of staff scans the incorrect barcode for the item brought to the till this will show up on the CCTV footage. Many retailers display this image on a small monitor by the tills so that the customer can clearly see this image. This acts as an excellent deterent.
Example- A friend of the staff member may bring up a bottle of Whisky value £ 15 and the staff member could scan a bar of chewing gum value 10p. This fraud will show up on the CCTV footage. |
